10k: 37:30, Chicago Proud to Run, Summer 2009

Half Marathon: 1:26:50, Hog's Back Half, November 2009

Short-Term Running Goals:

Summer:

build to up 70+ miles per week, occasional core and races, follow Jake's school's summer training plan until about August when I'll focus more on the half marathon; new goal: under 17 for 5k. 16:30 for 5k by the end of the summer

 Fall:

By next October I'm shooting to be under 1:20 for an Albany, NY half marathon.

Otherwise, just keeping up the miles so that I'm healthy, and possibly competitive, for a long time to come.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Eventually I would like to run a marathon, hopefully going under 3 hours, maybe significantly so. I'll think about that one when it's more in sight. I hope to continue improving my 5k time in the meantime.

Personal:

I'm an undergraduate at Brown University and part of the running club there. I'm told I should read Once a Runner, especially now that it's in print again... We'll see if that happens. Ok, so I read it, haha. It's awesome.

i did not feel good today lol, but it turned out alright. twice during the race i thought i was going to poop myself or something, really think i could have done better without the bowel issues. either way, pretty tough week, 12 miles yesterday, i'm definitely happy with the time.

edit: official results are up, the rando kid that outkicked Jake and I turned out not to be registered... 4th overall! 2nd in age division since Derek (the other guy I ran it with) is 20 and the divisions were 14-19, 20-24! Derek, Jake, and I took 2, 3, and 4 overall haha

Good time. Although not a PR for u its still better than my PR. A better taper would have helped but probably not 17 seconds. But rested on a cold flat course I would put you under 17 right now. I just hope I can catch up to your fitness in 4 months. The CVS downtown 5k may be our preliminary race but my chances arent looking good right now.

I almost pooped myself reading about how you almost pooped yourself.

Yes, bowel control/emptying is a highly under rated portion of training that you need to work on. I think i have a slight advantage on you there but Im nothing compared to bedoukian. He has pooped three times daily at the same time for decades now. His pooping skills are unmatched. I rival him on speed but not control or regularity.

it is true that i have a secret routine to cleanse the bowels before races. it has taken years of discipline to perfect. i've been known to drop 4lbs pre-race which significantly enhances my speed and endurance. we all have our strengths...each one of us needs to use them wisely come race day.

LOL ok so:

haynes: yea, i am definitely happy with the time, especially being not fresh for the race. i agree that the poop was not a deciding factor in keeping me from breaking 17min lol. but you should know that the course was pretty much flat, as is almost all of my running in Chicago lol. the temperature was pretty good too.

burt: LOL i almost pooped myself reading your comment. not really, but that's hilarious, although i'm sorry to make you share a feeling that i would wish on no man lol.

bedoukian: that is epic. i used to be regular, idk what happened. i think i came home and then my only source of fiber became granola fiber bars (i just had two, they're delicious). so far, not going too great.

haynes: if we both have to mid-run poop during that half, you will win. i am pretty confident about that lol. unless i pull a "whatever that guy's name is" who runs ultra marathons and advocates pooping yourself.
