Short-Term Running Goals:

Summer:

build to up 70+ miles per week, occasional core and races, follow Jake's school's summer training plan until about August when I'll focus more on the half marathon; new goal: under 17 for 5k. 16:30 for 5k by the end of the summer

 Fall:

By next October I'm shooting to be under 1:20 for an Albany, NY half marathon.

Otherwise, just keeping up the miles so that I'm healthy, and possibly competitive, for a long time to come.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Eventually I would like to run a marathon, hopefully going under 3 hours, maybe significantly so. I'll think about that one when it's more in sight. I hope to continue improving my 5k time in the meantime.

Personal:

I'm an undergraduate at Brown University and part of the running club there. I'm told I should read Once a Runner, especially now that it's in print again... We'll see if that happens. Ok, so I read it, haha. It's awesome.

today was an uber failure. it was supposed to be a long run of 12, but i was so hung over all day that i couldn't get the run in before dinner, and then after dinner when i finally got out, i felt sort of weak after the first half, and it was late, so i stopped (i was going to do two 6 mile loops starting from my house). i don't want to drink for a long time lol, ugh. i'll make up the mileage during the week though, at least.

Lol. It happens. I dont recommend making double loop courses without a very stoic running partner to keep you going. Also the long run is +/- in my opinion in terms of usefulness. You know how I feel about it for marathons... 15 or 16 is long enough. In fact I like my longest runs to have a tempo component to them. Like for a marathon 2-3 warmup, 10 miles or 6x2miles at marathon pace, 2-3 cooldown. For a half marathon longish tempos or cruise intervals are good and they can rack up some miles. Like my workout on thursday ended up over 10 miles. For my 1:18:45 I hadn't run over 10 miles for over 3 months before it. That wasn't planned though. I was training for the mile and just went out and ran the half because a bunch of people wanted a ride to it lol. Just make up the mileage.

i ran a 5k a few weeks ago soooooo hungover. it was terrible. getting up before 6am to go run in the heat and humidity sucked. thankfully, it was just for fun. i'm not much of a racer; just run for fun. on a good day, i probably could've nearly walked it as fast as i ran it.

by the way, y'alls entries are some of the most entertaining ones i read on frb. i love the competition between y'all.

KP: haha, that's the worst. i did it once last year, not fun. i almost didn't run the race, but i was at my friend's place lying on his bed, and he made me get up and run it. it went ok since the race was at like 10am and i got to sleep until about 20 min before the start lol. sweet, thanks lol

haynes: interesting lol. well i wassss going to to do 12 today (since it turns out yesterday was 12 and today was going to be 6), but maybe i'll just spread the distance over the course of the week. prolly will do 8 or 9 today rather than 10 or 12 since tomorrow is 4x4 min fartlek, prolly with 4 min rest... the plan my coach gave me has pretty long long runs; building up by 3 miles a week starting in july or august, probably peaking at like a 20 mile run. also, runs over 8 miles are supposed to have hills in them (since otherwise there would be no hills on these chicago runs lol). in other news, the groin is still healing, but it's almost there! urghh. it better behave tomorrow! in other other news, i'm reading Again to Carthage. it's very fishing and lawyerly so far lol. but there's a lot of book left still.

Yeah, it doesnt pick up the running part much until 2/3rds of the way through or further. Im rereading it now as well lol. You will see a lot of where i get my training ideas in this book. Slow on slow days, he doesnt go very far often even though he is training for the full marathon... etc.

And for KP's benefit:

You're goin' down biatch.

i swore off alcohol too. that lasted one week. your "long time" will probably be shorter than mine.
